Legal Research : Researching Laws, Court Decisions, and Administrative Regulations: Home
Welcome to the Legal Research Library Research Guide. This guide focuses on United States law and the research process for searching and finding legal information. Special emphasis is placed on primary sources such as legislation (statutory law), court decisions (case law), and regulations (administrative law) at the federal, state, and municipal level.
In most cases, it is recommended that you begin by searching for information about the law, court decision or regulation (called secondary and tertiary resources) such as encyclopedias, books, articles and other materials before you search for the actual law, court decision, or regulations.
This guide includes strategies and recommended print and electronic resources for finding each of these types of materials.
